TAIMA release their eponymous debut album through Proper Distribution on the 5th of July 2004.
(Montreal, Friday, May 28, 2004) - What does TAIMA mean? Taima is a widely used Inuktitut expression that means ‘Enough! It’s over. Let’s move on...’ It is also Elisapie Isaac and Alan Auger, the Inuk and French Canadian pairing that have created one of the most haunting albums of recent years.
After an initial meeting in July 2000, Elisapie and Alain formed the unique partnership that is TAIMA. Simple and authentic, intimate and unparalled in it’s emotion Taima is a record that is a window to a culture that remains exotic and foreign to most of us. With songs in English, French and Inuktitut, their debut album sold over fiftheen thousand units within weeks of its release in their native Canada, going top ten in Quebec and completely selling out its first pressing, making it one of the most commercially, as well as critically, successful albums of its time.
And their talent is no longer going unnoticed over here. Glastonbury Festivals’s Martin Elbourne has declared them “the best new live band I’sve seen in 10 years”. He is flying the band over from Canada to play three times at this years festival, the first time this has happened since Glastonbury began.
“TAIMA were the second act I booked to perform this year, after Paul McCartney. They will play the acoustic tent on Friday, the pyramid stage on Saturday, and the Jazz World stage on Sunday. I believe they are a really special act and am proud that Glastonbury will be the first of what I am sure will be many UK performances. Whilst they are big over in Canada, they are unknown over here. That will all change at the end of June!”
Make sure that you catch the start of something very special at Glastonbury.
